Intro to Fair Isle with Dear Pru

Begin your love affair with Stranded Colourwork Knitting. This workshop is designed by Pru Raymond as an introduction to this popular colourwork technique also known as Fair Isle. Learn to read charts, select colours and tension yarns in one and two hands. Develop the confidence to cast on your first- or next- Fair Isle project.

Pre-requisite skills: This workshop is suitable for novice knitters who can knit and purl and follow a basic pattern but would now like to learn to work with two colours at a time. It is also suitable for knitters who have experienced issues with tangled yarns, uneven tension and other issues when knitting Fair Isle patterns and would like to improve their skills and the quality of their colourwork projects.

Materials Required

  •  4 mm/ US 6, 80cm / 32” circular knitting needle or DPNs
  • 2 x 50g balls of 8ply/DK yarn in solid/ semi solid colours with a high contrast (ie. one white/ very light coloured yarn and one or mid- dark coloured yarn)
  • Notions: wool needle, stitch markers, scissors.

Our store will be open 15 minutes before class commences to purchase materials and wind yarn into a cake as required. Instruction booklets will be provided. Pens, scissors and any other tools needed will be available to borrow.


Their will be no entry to the class after the first 10 minutes

Tea and Coffee will be provided .

Pru Raymond has sold out knitting workshops and stackable retreats in yarn stores and community centres Australia-wide, and in yarn stores on the east and west coast of USA. Pru combines her expertise as a professional educator and her lifelong passion for knitting to develop original, engaging knitting workshops. As a qualified teacher with almost 20 years’ experience, Pru’s workshops are supportive, engaging and inclusive of all learners. Pru has an in-depth knowledge of diverse styles and techniques and demonstrates new skills in English, Combination and Continental Styles.

Working with children and young adults:
As an experienced teacher with a current SA teaching registration and current
police clearance, I am highly qualified to teach children and young adults.
