Open Hearted Fairisle Mitts

This workshop is designed to teach the basics of stranded colour work knitting, also known as fairisle. In making this pair of fingerless mitts, we will decode charts and build up skills and confidence in adding colour, as well as strategies for approaching more challenging colour work projects.

Not suitable for beginner knitters

Materials Required

•4 mm circular needle 80cm or Double pointed needles
• Yarn Requirements

  • Main Colour (MC): 50g Yarn Trader Studio DK (100% superwash merino wool;230m per 100g) white or equivalent
  • Contrast Colour (CC): 50 g Yarn Trader Studio DK (100% superwash wool; 230mper 100g) contrasting colour or equivalent
  • Yarn Trader Kits are available here

• Basic toolkit: stitch marker, scissors, tapestry needle etc
• 30 cm waste yarn for afterthought thumb

Our store will be open 15 minutes before class commences to purchase materials.

Instruction booklets will be provided. Pens, scissors and gauge rulers/ measuring tapes will be available to borrow.

The class will run from 10am-1pm. Tea and Coffee will be provided .

Teacher bio

Pru Raymond is a qualified educator and creative who has been knitting since
childhood. Knitting is her daily mindfulness practice, a creative outlet and an act of craftivism. She values her knitting workshops as a space for people to expand social and neural connections through creating.

Working with children and young adults:
As a teacher with a current SA teaching registration and 15 years teaching experience, I have current police clearance and am responsible and skilled in teaching children and young adults. The dexterity and skills required for this class would be suitable for most children aged 13+.
