Aleks Byrd Weekend – Steeking In Style
Tackle the scary steek and open a whole
new world of possibilities with your knitting!
Together we will explore two different styles of
steek edges from the fun of a knotted fringe
steek great for a shawl and the all round great
reinforcement method with crochet. We will
finish off with the perfect and super neat steek
sandwich band that makes a great finishing
touch hiding your steek on a cardigan.
Students will learn:
• Knotted fringe steek
• reinforcing a steek with crochet method
• Perfect cardigan band finishing with a
“steek sandwich”
SKILL LEVEL: intermediate knitter; students
should be comfortable to knit and purl in
the round with two colours knitting easy
colourwork, cast-on, bind -off
LENGTH : 3 hours in person
MATERIALS NEEDED:
• 2 sets of 5mm / US 8 needles for knitting
small circumference (Double pointed
needles or circular needles for magic loop)
• Stitch markers
• sharp scissors
• 3-5 mm crochet hook
• Worsted weight yarn in 3 contrasting
colours in the following approx. amounts:
– MC (main colour used in homework
swatch) 20g
– CC1 (contrast colour 1 used in homework
swatch) 20g
– CC2 (contrast colour 2 used for crochet
and steek sandwich band) 10g
HOMEWORK (takes approx 1 hour
to complete)
The class will run from 2pm-5pm. Tea and Coffee will be provided .
All class attendees with receive a 10% discount on all in-store purchases* on the day. This is also extended to any class materials purchased in store in advance.

About the Designer
Aleks Byrd is a knitwear designer with roots in Estonia, Canada, and the USA. She creates modern patterns with a connection to the past using little-known traditional techniques with a fresh twist on them for unique wearable designs that are fun and rewarding to knit for all levels of knitters. In addition to knitwear design, she works as an illustrator and teaches Estonian knitting techniques around the world. Her latest book Traditions Revisited – Modern Estonian Knits brings together her designs and teaching as introduction to Estonian knitting, both traditional and traditional-inspired.
Refunds and Attendance
You are able to cancel or change dates up to 10 days prior to the workshop or class to receive a full refund. This ensures your spot can be made available for another interested student. Less than 10 days prior to the workshop or class we will be unable to reschedule or refund the cost. You may however transfer your booking to a friend. We ask that in all cases you contact Yarn Trader if you will not be attending.
If for any reason Yarn Trader must cancel a workshop or class for any other reason a full refund will be given or by agreement your booking may be transferred to another class.
