Thrum Mittens – Knitting from Newfoundland
A cherished heritage pattern, Thrum Mittens have been made in Northern Newfoundland and Labrador for over 200 years. Thrum refers to a little wisp of unspun fleece or roving that is knit into the mittens every so often to create a beautiful speckled pattern.
In this all day class you will build upon your skills and learn the techniques to make this beautiful heritage pattern.
Also included is 100g skein of 10Ply yarn and 50g of roving dyed specially dyed for this class by local dyer Colagirl Collective in a choice of warm or cool colours.
Experience Level
- Being able to cast on, cast off, increase and decrease
- Being able to read a pattern
- Some experience of knitting in the round is advantageous but not required
- This class is not suitable for the beginner knitter

What to Bring
- 3.5mm circular needles with either a 30cm or if using the magic loop a 80cm ORÂ 3.5mm DPN’s
Class commences at 10am and is expected to run 4 to 5 hours
Please feel free to bring your lunch or we will organise ordering lunch from our neighbour the ‘Dutch Coffee Lab’. Unfortunately we do not have the facilities to re-heat food. Tea and Coffee will be provided,
Classes and Covid-Safe
All class sizes have been limited to six excluding the instructor to help maintain social distancing. A register of names and contact details will be kept. You are respectfully asked not to attend if you are feeling unwell.
